Chennai: The government will take efforts to increase the number of working days in MGNREGA from 100 days to 200 days, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.

Canvassing for the Mayiladuthurai AIADMK candidate S Asaimani, he said his government was doing everything to help the marginalised people. He pointed out that it was Amma’s government that had given Rs 1,000 as Pongal gift to every family in Tamilnadu.

In the same way, he had promised to pay Rs 2,000 per household as the State was suffering from drought and cyclone. He blamed DMK president M K Stalin for stalling the distribution of this money by filing a case in court.

“We have stopped the distribution of Rs 2,000 for now, but will continue it after the elections,” he said, which drew thunderous applause from the audience.
