Chennai: A gang of five men has been arrested for posing as policemen, stopping a vehicle on the pretext of inspection and ‘seizing’ Rs 1.7 crore at Saidapet here.
The men have been remanded in Puzhal in connection with this. According to the police, Udaya Kumar, who works as a manager with a private company lodged a complaint that on 16 March he had carried Rs 1.6 crore in a car which was stopped by the ‘police’. After finding the cash in the vehicle, they drove off with it.
Police said they arrested Mugil (27) from Maduravoyal, Gajendran (31) from Poonamallee, Kodiarasan (30) from Sriperumbudur, Venugopal (27) from Ayyappanthangal and Siva from Vyasarpadi.
Police are searching for one more accused. A four-wheeler, a two-wheeler and Rs 5.12 lakh was seized from the gang.
