The park at Ram Nagar Eighth Cross Street that is devoid of amenities.

Visiting a park facilitated with play equipment, benches, a walkers path with figure eight and green cover is surely a sight to behold.

Residents of Rajaji Nagar and Ram Nagar are longing for such a such a stress-buster for years. After the residents sent petitions to the Greater Chennai corporation (GCC) last year to provide a park furnished with all the essentials, the government body acted on it six months after.

The GCC gave residents the park they asked for at Ram Nagar Eighth Cross Street. However, residents state that the park does not have any amenities such as play equipment. They say it only has two benches.

“The locality has now become buzzing with a lot of activity with lots of IT professionals coming to live here. Hence, a park would help each and every resident to battle stress and spend leisurely hours, while also making new friends.
Also, we want the authorities to increase green cover, so that people can relax,” said Krishnan, a resident.

“We would also like to see restrooms installed here. Many parks nowadays have space for practicing Yoga too. It can be done. But for now, as a first measure, all that we are asking for are basic things. Authorities must also ensure that people do not misuse the open space. Tipplers should be kept at bay to keep the park usable. It is all in the hands of the authorities,” said Janani, another resident.

It is learnt that some renovation works are going on at the park. Sources informed that the park was once encroached for private use and was later recovered by the GCC, which subsequently made it available for public to use.
Residents want the authorities concerned to instal extra benches, play equipment and walkers path along with figure of eighth at the earliest.
