Kathmandu: Several southern Nepal was hit by a rainstorm and it left at least 27 people dead and 400 others injured. Army personnel have been deployed for the rescue operations.
On Sunday night the rain caused havoc in the villages of Bara and Parsa districts and the infrastructure was severely damaged. 26 people were killed in Bara, and one person died in Parsa, said media reports.
Cars were flipped by the strong winds; collapsing walls and falling bricks in homes and toppled trees and electricity poles were seen every where. The injured have been admitted to various health services and were undergoing treatment.
Rescue and relief operations are going on full-fledged and the people are facing food scarcity. Media reports claim that the number of casualties could rise as the rescue efforts continue. Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli has expressed sadness over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
The prime minister also visited the storm-hit areas. An emergency meeting of the cabinet of Province No. 2, where the incident occurred, has been called to discuss the ways to tackle the situation.
