Beijing: In a harrowing incident, a kindergarten teacher in China’s Henan province allegedly poisoned 23 children by adding nitrite into their food. The police have detained her.
The incident took place on 27 March in Mengmeng kindergarten in the city of Jiaozuo, said a media report. The children became ill and were admitted to hospitals for treatment. 15 of the children have already been discharged while eight others are still undergoing treatment.
The teacher, referred by her surname Wang had allegedly put nitrite into their porridge. Further investigation is underway. Sodium nitrite when used in high amounts can be toxic for animals and people.
