Chennai: Well-known mridagam exponent Madras A Kannan passed away at Mylapore Monday. He was 99.
He started his musical voyage at the tender age of six under the tutelage of eminent mridangam exponent Peethambara Desai and, later on, under Tanjore Ramadoss Rao.
Kannan also learnt veena and vocal simultaneously. His father Adhimoolam played a pivotal role in grooming Kannan. In fact, he was instrumental in making Kannan shift to mridangam.
Kannan’s last rites were performed today.
He resided at G2, Sriram Nivas Apartment, New No. 136, Dr Radhakrishnan Salai, Mylapore.
