Chennai: “Makkal Needhi Maiam would be happy if actor Rajinikanth prefers to campaign for our candidates in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls and Assembly by-elections,” said party president Kamal Haasan.

Addressing mediapersons at Chennai airport today, Kamal said, “When I met Rajinikanth a few weeks ago, he assured his support for us. We cannot go and request him to support us again and again. If he campaigns for us, we would be happy.”

Asked about cash seized from DMK leader Durai Murugan’s premises that was allegedly meant to be distributed to voters, Kamal said, “Our party would insist Election Commission cancel the poll in Vellore following the cash seizure. A wrong is always wrong. Both the major political parties in Tamilnadu have been blaming each other of allegedly distributing cash for votes.”

He further said, “The EC should act tough and in an unbiased manner. Murders and seizure of cash have become normal in the State. I have strictly warned my cadres not to do what these parties are doing. If anyone in my party is found promising money for votes, they will be dismissed from MNM immediately.”

Asked about Dravidian politics, he said, “I am not following the style of any Dravidian party. But I am a Dravidian whose philosophy is common to all. No one can claim ownership over it.”
