After Amala Paul, veteran actress Lalithakumari has turned producer. She is bankrolling a mega serial titled Thari (Weave) in Colors TV.
It is about the pitiable state of weavers in Kanchipuram and how they lead a precarious life.
The story is narrated through a girl essayed by Srinidhi belonging to a weaver’s family who were once at their peak and now going through a painful phase.
Says Lalithakumari, “We did extensive research before commencing the project. We went to Kachipuram and stayed there for few weeks to get to know of their routine work of weaving traditional pattu sarees. We interviewed many families as well. We have captured the real situation of weaving community and I hope the serial would give the necessary attention to the dying art of weaving.” Thari is directed by Shaktivel.
