Chennai: A restaurant server was stabbed to death by an unidentified gang near a liquor shop at Pallavaram here.
According to police, the victim Rajakannan (22), a native of Mayiladuthurai, worked at a hotel in Pallavaram and lived in a single room accommodation at Prem Nagar, Pozhichalur.
Two days ago, he was standing near a wine shop near his house when a four-member gang approached him and asked for his mobile phone which he refused to give.
The gang began attacking him and his friend Prasanth intervened to save him. In the melee, one of the gang members brandished a knife and stabbed Rajakannan. They attacked Prasanth too.
Both of them were admitted to Government Chrompet Hospital. While Prasanth sustained minor injuries, Rajakannan remained critical. He was shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital where he passed away this morning. Shankar Nagar police have registered a case.
