Naga Ashwini Magesh, a resident of Saligramam, has been qualified to enter the final round of Queen of Substance contest to be held at ITC Hotel Dwaraka in New Delhi, from 18 to 20 April 2019.

Speaking to News Today, she said Queen of Substance Pageant is a step towards acknowledging a married woman’s contribution to the family and society.

The three-day pageant is all about glitz and glamour with a strong motive to promote women empowerment and with a cause ‘Save the Little Heart’ to celebrate the spirit of womanhood, she said.

Asked about how she got into the contest, Ashwini said her friend Gayatri who is Mrs India Face of South 2017 suggested she apply online. She did so in January.

“I was shortlisted for telephonic round and was one among the three finalists from Tamilnadu (one from Madurai and two from Chennai). After being shortlisted, I was given three tasks: To create an awareness programme in a government school on menstrual hygiene, second, a fund-raising programme and the last one was to tweet a message on any general topic and to analyse the number of followers/likes, etc.,” she said.

For the task of creating awareness about menstrual hygiene, she conducted a camp at Government High School, Egmore, in which around 50 girl students participated. She also sponsored the medical treatment for two girls who had problems.

Ashwini said she completed the first two tasks and the third is still going on. The final round will be on Indian tradition and culture, evening walk, fitness round, question and answer session and interview.

On the educational front, Ashwini did her masters in Biotech in the UK and is presently doing M.Phil in infertility.
Regarding her plans for the future, she said she wants to give back to society in all possible ways.
Ashwini’s husband Magesh is an astrologer.

Ashwini resides at No 1, Cee Dee Yes Enclave, Third Street, Kumaran Colony, Saligramam, and can be contacted on 95000 17763.
