At Arvind Foundation, a charitable organisation for children with special needs, no occasion to make the children enjoy themselves is missed. And this was why the festival of Holi was celebrated at Arvind Institute of Vocational Excellence, K K Nagar, with fun and frolic.
If usage of natural fertilisers and pesticides is called organic farming, the celebration of Holi with natural colours can be called as ‘Organic celebration’.
At Arvind Foundation, the students of all five centres celebrated Holi with their teachers and friends in an organic style – using beetroot, carrot, turmeric and mint leaves to prepare coloured water. The mood was set when these were grated, ground and mixed by the students themselves. Besides colour and health benefit, the air was filled with the pleasant smell of mint and vegetables.
The children happily played with the healthy, coloured waters – splashing on one another, shouting with excitement, roping in teachers, volunteers, caretakers and visitors too. It was more like the celebration of a huge family.
For three days preceding the festival, stories of Holi celebration were narrated to the children. They were also taught about different colours.
