Malappuram: The police yesterday arrested C Raghavan, a former chief of Vattamkulam panchayat for allegedly attacking a 10-year-old girl rag-picker.
According to media reports, Raghavan had hit the girl for picking rags and scrap metal on his property. She suffered head injuries as he had hit her with her bag containing metal pieces.
The police subsequently registered a case against him. Ramesh Chennithala, opposition leader in the Kerala assembly met the victim at the hospital and told reporters that the Kerala ruling government was not doing anything for the safety of women and children.
