With almost all residents welfare associations functioning actively at K K Nagar, they want to take it to the next step by forming a federation.
Sixth Sector Residents Welfare Association president MSA Razak has mooted the idea, to which a few association heads have given their consent.
“The association heads welcomed the move and said a meeting can arranged in this regard after the Lok Sabha polls,” said Razak.
“There are 15 sectors at K K Nagar. Each sector has problems and when they are addressed through a federation with officials, the weightage is more,” he said.
“It is a good idea to form a federation and we extend all support,” said Eleventh Sector Exnora Association president K S Rajendran. “Forming a federation will be useful, but it should be effective. We have arranged for a meeting with our residents Sunday and the issue would be discussed,” said Eighth Sector Residents Welfare Association president G Perumal.
There already exists the Federation of K K Nagar Residents Welfare Associations headed by V Vairasekar. It is learnt that the federation was active in its initial days but not so in recent years.
Speaking to News Today, Vairasekar said, “In 1999, we formed K K Nagar Residents Welfare Association and in 2004 it was renamed as Federation of K K Nagar Residents Welfare Associations. It has been registered. Through the federation, we have filed 12 PILs with regard to encroachments at K K Nagar and took several welfare measures.”
“The federation was active by conducting meetings. As years rolled by, there was less participation from sector association members,” he said.
“If residents welfare associations come forward to do good for the area, I am ready to hand over the responsibilities to them,” Vairasekar said.

| Dialysis centre to come up? |
| At Sixth Sector, there is a building belonging to K K Nagar Artisans Plot Allottees Association allotted by TNHB. It is headed by Vairaseker. Lions Clubs of International, District 324A8 wants to make use of the building to run a free dialysis centre. “At present, we run the centre at Chetpet with three dialysis machines. The rent in high and also there is water shortage. For a single patient, we need 200 litres of RO water. We plan to move to Sixth Sector to run the facility, where it can benefit underprivileged residents of the neighbourhood,” said Lions Clubs of International, District 324A8 cabinet secretary and Sixth Sector resident M Udaya Kumar. When asked about it, Vairasekar said, “The building is yet to function as we need to get water and electricity connection. We are also planning to use the place to conduct free medical camps and consultations on a regular basis.” “If the Lions Club wants to run a dialysis centre, they can approach the association. The committee members will decide on it,” he said. |
