Chennai: Indian National Congress and AIADMK have won six elections each in the Karur Lok Sabha constituency from 1957.
The incumbent AIADMK MP and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M Thambidurai has been elected twice from the constituency in 2009 and 2014. He has been fielded for the third time again now.
INC’s Jothimani, MNM’s Hariharan and AMMK’s N Thangavel are also contesting from this seat. There are 13,65,802 voters in the constituency out of which 6,69,115 are men, 6,96,623 are women and 64 transpersons.
The Karur Lok Sabha constituency is composed Aravakurichi, Karur, Krishnarayapuram, Manapparai, Vedasanthur and Viralimalai Assembly segments.
