Moon craters at Moovarasampet irk motorists

Motorists taking Moovarasampet Main Road to reach arterial stretches such as Kannan Nagar and Kumaran Nagar are finding it really hard to travel because of the huge potholes present there.

Rubbing salt to wound is the dust and the fact that sewage water overflows and runs along the road, said residents, who want authorities to act immediately, lay a new coat of tar, sealing the sewage lines with culvert and replacing damaged trash cans with new ones.

Expressing his concerns, Saravanan, a motorist said that his body has taken the brunt of the harsh ride and that things need to get better at the spot.

“I have no other choice other than to reach Kannan Nagar from here (Madipakkam Koot Road) rather than to traverse through the crater filled path. It is in this state for years. Once a year, Municipality officials repair the road by dumping debris. But after a week, the road returns to its original pathetic state,” said Saravanan.

Former president of Kasi Visalatchi Nagar Residents Welfare Association, Vallinayagam C wrote to News Today and in his letter, he said the road that links Koot Road and Kannan Nagar Third Cross Street is only 200 metres, but is in a deplorable state.

“There are three to four places heavily damaged in the lane, such as the one opposite to Corporation bank. I request the authorities concerned to act immediately and repair the road asap,” the letter read.

Residents living there want the authorities to mill the existing part completely and re-lay a fresh coat of tarmac. “We don’t want our roads half-baked like Medavakkam Main Road. We also want authorities to repair damaged sewage lines running along the lane before carrying out the road works, to make it easier for all,” said residents.
