Residents living around Chokkalingam Nagar complain of a serious of issues that has been prevailing in the locality for a while now. Sivashankaran Salai, that connects Anna Salai and the Stella Marys College, is located in the Chokkalingam Nagar and with heaps of waste piled up on the roadside near the DMS offices and the vehicles lined up on the other side are some of the issues that has prevailed in the locality for a while now.

Speaking about this, Vijaya Lakshmi, a resident says, “We have been living in the locality for more than 10 years now and the main problem here is the offices located just opposite to the colony dump their waste in the streets and that makes the garbage overflow from the dustbins and with foul smell emanating from it always it is difficult to even walk past the road.”

Senior citizens complain that the vehicles belonging to those government offices also made the roadside as their permanent parking lot and that causes another trouble.

“It has always been difficult for us to walk on the road as the garbage has filled the pavements and with the vehicles parked one after the other, we could not walk without the fear of getting hit by vehicles plying the road. Despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken so far at least to remove these vehicles from the spot,” says Janardhan a senior citizen.

He also points out that sometimes during peak hours due to these problems, traffic jam also occurs here. Many people prefer to use this road as a shortcut to reach Anna Salai and with the impending civic troubles, this road too faces traffic jam. Steps must be taken by the government offices to park their vehicles inside their premises and they should also arrange for a bin in their complex and dump their waste there itself that will give us, the residents a huge relief,” he says.
