Mangaluru: Karnataka government’s decision to withdraw 142 cases relating to serious crimes in the State was strongly condemned by the BJP. Bharath Shetty BJP MLA from Mangaluru North said yesterday that the party will appeal against the decision.

He stated that there was an hidden agenda in the government’s decision and it was an appeasement of minority communities for electoral gains. He further claimed that majority of the cases to be withdrawn involved accused from minority communities and a few cases in which Hindus accused were involved have been included in the list to create an impression that the move was impartial.

He alleged that by withdrawing criminal cases such as the 2014 communal disturbances incident at Ulaibettu, the State government was sending a wrong message and that if these accused were to be let free, the communal situation in Dakshina Kannada regions would be affected.
