Rameswaram:Ā Sri Lankan Navy yesterday arrested four Tamilnadu fishermen for allegedly fishing near Neduntheevu in the island nation’s territorial waters yesterday.
According to media reports,Ā Rameswaram Fishermen Association President, P Sesuraja, saidĀ on Monday, around 3,000 fishermen had set out for catching fish off Neduntheevu.
TheĀ Lankan naval personnel who had come to the spot damaged the fishing nets of 50 boats, took away GPS equipment and chased away all the fishermen.
The arrested fishermen have been taken to Kangesanthurai port along with their boats and the rest of the men were chased off without a catch.
In a separate incident, on 5 April 18 fishermen from Kilinjal Medu village near Karaikal were arrested by the Lankan navy when they were fishing near Paruthithurai in the island nation.
