Chennai:Ā The Madurai airport has been brought under a security blanket ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the temple city tomorrow for election campaign.

Sources said seven-tier security has been provided to the airport. Passengers are allowed to enter and exit the airport only after elaborate scrutiny.

Modi will be canvassing for votes in Kerala and Tamilnadu tomorrow and the day after. He will be in Kozhikode, Kerala, tomorrow to participate in an election rally. He will land in Madurai, in Tamilnadu, by a special aircraft at night.

Modi will spend the night in a private hotel at Pasumalai. Because of this, security has been tightened at the hotel and the adjoining areas have also been brought under the control of Central and State police. There is also traffic diversion near the hotel.

On Saturday (13 April), the Prime Minister is taking part in a public meeting at Andipatti in Theni district at 11 am. He will be travelling by helicopter to the meeting venue. He will be seeking votes for candidates contesting in Theni, Dindigul, Madurai and Virudhunagar in the AIADMK alliance.

Modi will be leaving again by helicopter to Ramanathapuram at 12 noon from Andipatti. While participating in a public rally at a playground near Amma Park, he will canvass for the alliance candidates contesting the parliamentary elections in Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tenkasi and Thoothukudi and by-election in Paramakudi.

Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, ministers and alliance party leaders will also be participating in the meetings.
