Chennai: The police are conducting inquiries with a man after he allegedly murdered a woman whom he wanted to marry, at Chitlapakkam.
According to sources, police are questioning Santhosh (28), a native of Thanjavur, who worked as a taxi driver. He lived with his brother Sathish and sister-in-law Arul Mozhi in Chitlapakkam.
The victim is Arul Mozhi’s sister Akhila who often visited them. She lived in a hostel in Irumbuliyur and worked in a private company in Pallavaram.
Santhosh wanted to marry her and allegedly pestered her about it. A few days ago, Sathish and Arul Mozhi left for their native place as they had a newborn baby.
On 9 March, Santhosh invited Akhila to come and see him. The next morning, he informed his family that Akhila had hit her head against a grill gate and fell unconscious. He claimed that she went to sleep after that and passed away.
The family members who reached the city lodged a complaint with the police that they suspected the hand of Santhosh, who had been pressurising the girl to marry him.
The police have registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem to Chrompet Government Hospital. It is said there was an injury mark on her forehead, but police are inquiring about the motive behind the alleged murder.
