Chennai: The Nagapattinam Lok Sabha constituency is seen as a stronghold for the Communist Party of India as the party has been elected six times from here. However, AIADMK won the seat last Lok Sabha poll and the party’s K Gopal is the incumbent MP.
CPI which is part of the DMK alliance has fielded M Selvarasu and M Saravanan has been nominated on behalf of the AIADMK.
The constituency has a large electorate of agricultural labourers. There are 12,92,658 voters in the constituency out of which 6,38,726 are men, 6,53,895 are women and 37 transpersons.
