Raj Ramchand during his election campaign in Central Chennai constitutency

Chennai: With election day just around the corner, citizens are all set to cast their vote. Despite the participation of known candidates from powerful parties. a handful of independent candidates will also be trying their luck in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.

In a chat with NewsToday, Raj Ramchand, an independent candidate for Central Constituency spoke about his agenda and plans if he wins the election.

The 51-year-old who is a finance-professional says, “I entered politics with the aspiration to serve the country.” Raj credits his inspiration to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Raj reveals that he took factors that has “resulted in the decaying of our society in the last 70 years” while preparing his election manifesto. He then explains in brief about his primary focus if he wins the election. “Water scarcity should be addressed by setting up desalination plant, planting trees to attract rains and increase the underground water level,” he says. He further notes that this is the reason why he chose ‘Bucket’ as his election symbol.

“Bucket has symbolic connection to water. Solving water problem and preserving it is my prime agenda,” says Raj. His other plans includes providing good roads, imparting skill based education to children, linking job-seekers to job-givers, creating funds for needy people, organising yoga camps, supporting distressed farmers, implementing Swachh Bharat.

“Providing self defense training for woman, setting up Gurukul for boys during summer vacation, creating platform for business men to reach government with ease and celebrating religious festivals to promote brotherhood are a part of my plans,” says Raj.

He further says, “TV Channels make predictions based on the fact that on an average only 60 per cent voters in this constituency vote but I request people to use their mind before voting and not get influenced by others.”
