Chennai: Team Phoenix won the inaugural Chennai edition of the Red Bull Reign – a global 3v3 basketball tournament in India, to qualify for the national finals to be held in Mumbai in the month of June.
Red Bull Reign is a 3- member per team sport, which tests stamina and endurance of players while trying to accumulate the most points possible to outlast the opponents within the given time (10mins).
The tournament was held in T Nagar corporation ground on 13 and 14 April in which 128 players, representing 32 teams participated. In some exhilarating display of quick pace basketball, Team Pheonix beat their opponents Team Excellence in the finals 3-1 in extra time, after score was level 11-11 to clinch the Chennai qualifiers.
The Chennai city winners will now battle it out at the national finals in Mumbai in the first week of June, and the India winner will move on to represent the country at the World Finals later in the year.
