Erode: The police arrested a man after he chopped off the head of his wife and tried to dump the body in a canal.

The accused Muniappan (28) had married Nivetha (19) eight months ago. They were a native of Shimoga in Karnataka and were staying in Mettukaddai. He suspected his wife’s fidelity and the couple often quarreled because of that.

On Monday, Muniappan after a fight stabbed her on the neck. He severed the head and stuffed the body in a bag. He planned on dumping it in a canal in Perungudi but was caught after several people noticed the deceased legs sticking out of the bag and chased him.

The accused abandoned the bike and jumped into the canal but was nabbed. A case of murder was registered against him and further investigations were on.
