It has been some time since Tamil cinema came up with a poignantly made romantic film that made you laugh and cry.

Filmmaker Saravana Rajendran’s Mehandi Circus is a touchy tale about a love couple backed up wonderful music by Sean Roldon and written interestingly by director Raju Murugan.

Three cheers to Saravana Rajendran for coming out with a engaging film which aims to entertain audience.

A feel-good breezy story set in 1990s, in the backdrop of a village makes it more interesting. Jeeva (Madhampatty Rangaraj) is a die-gard fan of maestro Ilayaraja. Hence he names the audio cassette shop that he runs as Raja Geetham in a village near Kodaikanal. Jeeva falls in love with Mehandi (Shweta Tripathi). The latter is part of a circus company that comes to village to eke out their livelihood.

Raajangham (Marimuthu), father of Jeeva does not like his son being in love with a girl from a lower cast and Mehandi’s dad is also against the love. Thanks to the help of a local priest Amaladass (Vela Ramamoorthy) and Raajamgham’s friend (Vigneshkanth), the lovers elope. But there is a twist.
Madhampatty Rangaraj plays the lead well. His body language and dialogue delivery are good, while Shweta Tripathi as circus girl walks away with all applause.

Vela Ramamoorthy and Marimuthu fits the role well, while Vigneshkanth tries to tickle your funny bone. Three cheers to the filmmmaker for his honest execution that makes it an engrossing affair. It is a movie which is more a tribute to Ilayaraja music.
