Chennai: R Athul Kumar, a resident of K K Nagar, is a flautist, representing Indian music across genres, including classical Carnatic, world music, fusion, jugalbandhi to name a few.
With a rich musical lineage of being the grandson and disciple of N Ramani, Athul has presented many concerts in India and abroad.
Over the past 24 years, he has composed many contemporary style musicals and the latest will be a comedy dance musical ‘Thuru Thuru Tenali Raman’ with a live orchestra, to be staged at Vani Mahal, Main Hall, T Nagar, 17 April, at 7 pm.
A ticketed show, the comedy dance musical promises to bring to life the court scenes between the then Vijayanagar Emperor Krishnadevaraya and his court poet/ jester ‘VikataKavi- Tenali’ through seven interesting and thought-provoking stories.
The highlight of this comedy dance musical are the instruments, like guitar, sitar in addition to the other basic instruments, with no lyrics or songs, a press release said.
The dancers from Bharatham Academy Of Fine Arts, founded by Himaja, the disciple of Kalaimamani Uma Anand (Dandayuthapani), a well-known Bharatanatya exponent herself, also plays the role of Krishnadevaraya and performs abhinayams to present the entire comic story purely based on the music emanating from the instruments, the release said.
