Chennai: The police have arrested a man from Padi who stabbed to death his father, while drunk.
The victim, Thamilselvan (56), a resident of Kalaivanar Nagar, Padi, sells fruits in a pushcart in the area. His sons Suriya Prakash (27) and Kumaresan assisted him in the business.
Last night, around 11.30, Suriya Prakash and Thamilselvan had a petty quarrel. As Suriya Prakash was drunk, the quarrel degenerated into a fight.
Thamilselvan seems to have warned his son to quietly lie down failing which he would hit him on the head with a club.
This seemed to have provoked Suriya Prakash who attacked his father with a knife and injured him on the neck, chest, stomach and hands.
While Thamilselvan died on the spot, Suriya Prakash fled.
The JJ Nagar police, who arrived at the spot, sent the body to KMC for post-mortem and began their investigation.
Based on CCTV footage, they tracked and arrested Suriya Prakash.
