Komban-fame Muthiah is ready with his next, titled Devarattam. Denying rumours that it glorifies one particular community, he says, “It is not a caste-based film. It is a family drama loaded with emotions. Brother-sister affection forms the crux of the story.”

Produced by Studio Green Gnanavelraja, the movie stars Gautham Karthik and Manjima Mohan in the lead. The cast includes writer Vela Ramamurthy, Bose Venkat and Vinodhini.

Music is by Nivas K Prasanna.

Devarattam releases this May.

Says Muthiah, “I haven’t grown up seeing caste, and neither does my film showcase it. This film, like every other project of mine, is based on the sanctity of relationships. Devarattam is actually about how we treat women in our lives. A particular incident triggers the protagonist, Vetri, and the film follows what happens when he takes up a social cause with the support of his loving family.”

For his part, Gautham Karthik, says, “I learnt a lot working with Muthiah. He was very patient and helped me master the Madurai slang. Manjima Mohan was a wonderful co-star. I want to work with Muthiah is more films.”

When I made Attakathi, people said Ranjith represents one community and the same happened to Muthiah. The thing is these directors make films based on the locality where they grew up; they are not glorifying any particular community, said Gnanavelraja.
