Chennai: The Tamilnadu Sports Journalists’ Association’s has joined hands with India Cements to present its annual awards which recognise exemplary deeds, recent performances and bright potential across all sports.

During the event on 27 April, legendary Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj, former India leg-spinner VV Kumar and Asian Games gold medallist R Gnanasekaran will be receiving the India Cements-TNSJA Lifetime Achievement awards.

Speaking about the awards, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, India Cements Ltd, N Srinivasan, said, “We, at India Cements, have been promoting sports and sportspersons for decades by offering employment opportunities to sportspersons and through our cricket teams at the grassroots level. We are happy to partner with TNSJA to encourage promising young athletes apart from recognising some remarkable performances over the last year.”

Sportsperson of the Year, Young Achievers, Coach of the Year and Team of the Year are other categories of awards to be presented on the occasion. Ten up-and-coming sportspersons will be honoured with scholarships to the tune of Rs 3 lakh.

The India Cements-TNSJA scholarship winners for 2018-19 (Rs. 30,000 each): 1. R. Rajesh (Athletics), 2. B. Mathesh (Athletics), 3. B. Mariyammal (Football), 4. S. Pushpa (Basketball), 5. R. Vimal Khumar (Cricket), 6. K.N. Ramyashri (Cricket), 7. Savitha Shri (Chess), 8. D. Vishwa (Table Tennis), 9. V. S. Varshini (Badminton), 10. B. Kundana Sri (Tennis).
