Chennai: A mother and her son jumped into Marina beach allegedly due to family problems. Though the son was rescued by the police, the mother died this morning.
According to the police, Revathy (64) and her son Shanmugapriyan (25), of Salem arrived here at 6 am by train.
Police said both of them were upset over a family problem and came with the intention of ending their lives in the city.
They reached Anna Memorial and jumped into sea. Luckily the Marine police who saw them saved Shanmugapriyan, but they could not rescue Revathy.
Her body was fished out and sent to Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital, Omandurar Estate for postmortem.
Police said, Revathy, a homemaker was married to one Slevakumar and Shanmugapriyan, who is unmarried worked at a college in Salem.
