If one has the desire to become a sports person or an author or any profession off-the-beat, one cannot expect people to encourage them. Such is the time that we live in. One needs immense perseverance and determination to chase their calling.
In a rare feat and as a model to the youth population, J Mohan Prakash gave his attempt to break the record in doing fingertip push-ups or distal phalanx with 27.2 kgs on his back, recently.
However, he missed to break the Guinness record in a jiffy. It did not deter him and an enthusiastic Mohan wants to continue doing what he likes.
In conversation with News Today, he speaks about his passion, societal challenges and much more. “Push-ups is something that every fitness enthusiast is familiar with, but not everyone can create a record. When I was researching about it, I found that only one person from Delhi has attempted it which motivated me to give a try,” Mohan shares.
While everyone is aware of plain push-ups, he says that creating record is easy unlike the one doing with finger-tips. On the difficulty, he says, “If a person does not have enough stamina, probabilities of fracturing bones is more. It is just like how a pregnant woman’s bones undergo changes while birthing a baby. It requires a lot of physical and mental strength to achieve something.”
It is only with a few seconds he missed to break the touchstone of 20 push-ups in a minute’s time with 27.2 kg on his back. “I struggled after taking 18 distal phalanx and gave my best to do a few more before the whistle to the final second blew and equated with the record by doing two more,” says the IT employee.
“The registration was done way back in August 2018 and the event held in December 2018 that gave me enough time to be equipped with skills,” he adds.
When asked the motivation behind trying it, the quadragenarian shares, “I have been wanting to make our nation proud right from my childhood, but I did not get an opportunity. The country has got talents, unfortunately, parents hesitate to nurture the prodigal qualities. I wanted to show that a record can be achieved by any person that in turn inspires fellow youngsters to tread the path.”
However, Mohan’s family were kept in dark about his attempt until the dawn of D-Day. And the reason being, he was unsure of how they would react. “After the event, they were quite happy on seeing my accomplishment and the motto with which I worked for it. They were worried that I undertook the challenge after being sick for awhile,” he says.
He believes the message and motive behind it reached the parent population and give an opportunity to their children to hone their skills and shine like the sun. Although he did not create a record, he plans to practice, attempt once again and inspire the young generation.
