Chennai: More than one lakh and four thousand medical aspirants in Tamilnadu will be writing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) tomorrow which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
In addition to students from private schools, statistics show that more than 19,000 candidates from government and aided institutions have registered for the competitive exam.
A total of 560 exam centres have been allotted in the State to evade chaos that happened last year. Tight security arrangements are also in place. Four districts to the existing list have been added this year where the registration count crossed 4,000.
Chennai, Coimbatore, Cuddalore, Kancheepuram, Karur, Madurai, Nagercoil, Namakkal, Salem, Thanjavur, Thiruvallur, Trichy, Tirunelveli and Vellore are the 14 cities that have designated NEET centres in Tamilnadu.
It may be noted that there were only 210 centres in Tamilnadu last year while more than 1.17 lakh students had registered. Many had to suffer as the venue was allocated in other States.
Earlier, the admit cards were uploaded by the end of April. However, due to Lok Sabha elections this year, changes were made in examination centres in some States that include Tamilnadu, Kerala and Karnataka, and a revised list was released during the weekend.
A statement released by NEET (UG) Unit Senior Director, said, “Candidates are advised to acquaint themselves with the location of new centre allotted now, so that they do not face any difficulty in reaching the venue. The respective City Coordinators have also been advised to facilitate information to these candidates through media.”
NTA stated that candidates have been advised to download their fresh e-admit cards available on their website (www.ntaneet.nic.in) and report on time to the new centres.
Ahead of the exam, NTA has released guidelines for the students. “While the test is conducted between 2 pm and 5 pm, the candidates should be present in the campus by 1.30 pm. The process of frisking will begin from 11.30 am,” read the statement.
In case of a differently-abled person with relaxation claim, a disability certificate provided by a competent authority has to be submitted, added the release.
Diabetics, the statement said, may carry sugar tablets, fruits and transparent water bottle after having sought prior permission. However, packaged items like candy or sandwich is strictly prohibited inside the classroom.
