Salem: Fearing defeat in elections, DMK president M K Stalin is bringing no confidence motion against Tamilandu Assembly Speaker, said Chief Minister Edappadi K Palamiswami. His act has brought to light the nexus between AMMK leader TTV Dhinkaran and the DMK, he added.

The Chief Minister is campaigning for the AIADMK candidate in Aravankurichi this evning. Earlier speaking to media persons at Salem airport, Palaniswami, said, “AIADMK will win the by-poll in all the four Assembly constituencies to be held on 19 May.”

Asked about local body elections, Palaniswami, said, “It is the duty of State Election Commission to hold local body elections. Only because of a case filed by the DMK, the polls are delayed. AIADMK was always ready to face the elections. We are hopeful that it may be held soon.”

On the termination of 1500 teachers who failed in the eligibility exams, the Chief Minister said, “We have no option but to implement the court verdict in this regard.”

Denying actor Prakashraj’s claim that students from Tamilnadu have robbed employment opportunities from Delhi students, Palaniswami, said,

“It is because Prakashraj hails from Karnataka. They are getting jobs because of their skills. There is no interference of State government in this issue. Our government gives utmost importance to higher education and it has empowered students from Tamilnadu to get jobs immediaetly.”

Coming down heavily on M K Stalin, Palaniswami, said, “Fearing election defeat, the DMK leader is meeting people and making false allegations.”

“I wonder why Stalin is agitated at notices being served on three AIADMK MLAs for their anti-party activities. We complained to speaker with enough evidence. Now Stalin’s act has brought to light the nexus between AMMK and DMK. The no confidence motion against Assembly speaker is needless,” he added.

Alleging that Stalin tried to topple the State government in the past, the Chief Minister said that the DMK leader is now involved in breaking the AIADMK.

“It is clear that fearing defeat in the elections, Stalin has moved for no confidence against Speaker. Stalin has come to a conclusion that he cannot win the by-elections to 22 Assembly seats,” he added.

To a question on opening of Mettur dam for irrigation, “If nature co-operates, we will take adequate measure to open the dam for cultivation of kuruvai crop.”
