Chennai: To raise funds for spinal cord injury research, Wings for Life World Run organised a charity run across the world. In Chennai, the sixth edition of marathon was held Sunday.

K Anish and Alice Surin ran 4.82 km and 2.19 km and won in the male and female categories, respectively.

According to a press release, the marathon that kicked off across 27 countries saw 1.20 lakh registered runners and wheelchair participants covering more than 11 lakh km in 323 locations.

So far, the event has raised over 3.5 million euros and enthusiastic runners are still taking up the challenge.

The collected entry fees and donations raised by the run goes to projects supported by the Wings for Life foundation to fund the study.

In India, more than 700 participants took the challenge across 13 cities that include Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad, among others, and raised Rs 6.9 lakh for facilitating the research, added the press release.
