Chennai: A private club in the city was raided by the police yesterday and 40 people were arrested for allegedly indulging in gambling.
In the process, Rs 2.44 lakh in cash and nearly 100 packs of playing cards were seized by the police.
Among those arrested are the club’s manager Sivaprasad (62) and an employee Selvam.Â
In an unrelated incident, on Sunday, nine people were held for allegedly indulging in gambling in a hotel in the city.
In March, 67 people were arrested in a major crackdown for their alleged involvement in gambling. According to media reports, special police teams have been deployed to bring down gambling, which is considered illegal according to the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, in the city.
