Thiruvananthapuram: A week after an 18-old-student attempted suicide at University College in Kerala, the Governor P Sathasivam yesterday sought an urgent report from the Kerala University Vice-Chancellor on the issue.

In a release issued by the Raj Bhavan, the governor directed the vice-chancellor after it received a petitions from Communist Marxist Party and the Kerala Students Union on the alleged harassment of the first year BsC student of the Department of Physics, University College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Last week, the girl student had allegedly slit her hand and she was found in the parking area of University College. As soon as the news spread, TV channels flashed a suicide note allegedly written by her.

The note read that she had taken the drastic step due to her stressful state of mind and that she was unable to study as the student political organisations of the college forcefully made her participate in various cultural functions.

The girl, however, refused to file a complaint against anyone in her statement to the police. A suo motu case was registered by the state human rights commission in connection to the issue and it has sought a report from the college principal.
