Chennai: In a bid to improvise the quality of railway coaches, the Tambaram-Nagercoil tri-weekly express’ old rakes were replaced with new Utkrisht upgraded coaches and was flagged off from Tambaram by two senior Southern Railway officials here on Wednesday.
According to a press release, the upgradation is a part of phase two of ‘Project Utkrisht’ sanctioned by the Railway Board to upgrade 64 rakes at a total cost of Rs 67.75 crores. The press release added, three rakes have been upgraded so far and the remaining 61 rakes will be completed shortly.
Features
The Utkrisht upgraded coaches are painted with apricot and red exterior. They have swanky interiors such as polyurethane painting on exterior, hydrophobic coating of wash basin, epoxy flooring in toilet, vinyl wrapping of doorway and gang way, LED lights, mobile charging points, toilets health faucet, among others.
