Chennai: It’s problems aplenty in Tamil cinema. A couple of releases for this week have been postponed and a notice has been served on a producer for non-payment of debts besides an ad-hoc committee appointed by the government to run the affairs of the Tamil Film Producers Council alleging irregularities.

Sam Anton directorial 100, starring Atharvaa in the lead, was initially scheduled to release on 3 May, but was postponed to 9 May. However, it didn’t hit the screens yesterday. The Madras High Court had issued a stay on the film, owing to a civil suit filed by 70MM Entertainment, which claimed that Auraa Cinemas, the producers of 100, had to settle dues worth Rs one crore.

Vishal’s Ayogya, the remake of Telugu hit Temper, which was to release today was called off at the last minute. Sources say that producer of the movie Madhu had to pay huge sum to a few for his earlier films. On his part, Vishal tweeted, “As I wait. For my hardwork called #ayogya to release. I did my best.more than an actor. as always. I groomed my child since it came on my lap. BUT.not enuf??? #gajjnimohamed. My time will come. I continue my journey.”

Jiiva’s Kee after several delays hit the screens today. According to director Kalees, “The film was scheduled to hit screens in February 2018 but one delay led to another and finally we’ve been able to release after more than a year. Previous loss faced by Kee’s producer had hindered my film’s release.”

Vemal’s Kalavani 2 is also witnessing trouble. Recently, the Madras High Court took cognisance of a complaint from Singaravelan of Sri Dhanalakshmi Productions and stayed the release of the Sargunam directorial for six weeks. In response, the filmmaker shared a video message on social media denying any knowledge about the said production house, and refuted claims of them having the rights of the sequel to the 2010 film. However a couple of days later, the Madras High Court lifted the interim stay allowing Sargunam to release the film. But Singaravelan has appealed in the court against lifting the stay.

Meanwhile, K Rajarajan of K productions was issued a legal notice by AKRA Media, who bankrolled Baahubali. They alleged that Rajarajan has not paid the money as promised to release the movie in Tamil. They said, as per a court order, Rajarajan cannot release his forthcoming venture, Vijay Sethupathi-starrer ‘Sindhubadh’ until he settle the due. Same is the case for Madan of Escape Artistes for Dhanush-starrer Ennai Nokki Payum Thotta.

HC refuses to stay
The Madras High Court today refused to order stay on a petition filed by actor-producer Vishal. A few days ago the State government appointed an ad hoc committee to look after the administration of Tamil Film Producers Council following allegations of irregularities. It also appointed a few from the industry to run the daily affairs. However TFPC chief Vishal took tothe court seeking a stay on the appointment of the committee.
