Chennai: Access to social media was blocked in Sri Lanka after a few mosques were stoned yesterday.
According to reports, stones were pelted at a few mosques and commercial establishments in Zila. It was said this was because of false news circulating on social media.
The Lankan government had blocked social media after the Easter Sunday blast that killed 253 people and injured more than 500 others.
For their part, the commanders of the three armed forces said there was no risk of a terrorist attack taking place Lanka today. They pointed out that security around the country has been beefed up.
The commanders called upon the general public to carry on with their day-to-day a activities and send children to schools.
Airforce commander, Air Marshal Kapila Jayampathy, assured that there was no need to be frightened by rumours.
Army commander, Lt General Mahesh Senanayake, called on the general public not to be misled by unconfirmed information.
Navy commander, Vice Admiral Piyal de Silva, asked the general public to keep faith in the armed forces and return to routine life.
