Chennai: It is the season of exam results and all children would be biting their nails in anxiety. Last week, the students who appeared for State board Plus-One examination heaved a sigh of relief.

In a matter of pride to the neighbourhood, Jaigopal Garodia Girls’ Higher Secondary School located in Fifth Main Road, Nanganallur, has produced 90 per cent all-pass candidates in class 11. But it is not just them, the government-run institution has recorded 91 pass pecentage in class 10 and 12.

The total number of students in class 11 are 153, 158 in class 12 and 160 in class 10. Speaking about the feat to News Today, the Headmistress said, “It is the culmination of efforts taken by the teachers and students’ discipline that has paid us off with gracious results.”

Breaking the stigma that government schools are not on par with their private counterparts, the teachers of the institution conducted special classes in the mornings and evenings to coach children.

Asked about the teaching methodology implemented, she said, “We formed groups within the class based on their performance that provided us the chance to pay individual attention despite the strength being high.”
She further said that the institution is heading towards the right direction to climb up the ladder of success. “Last year, the school recorded only 81 per cent and it has gone up by 10 per cent and hope to achieve centum results in coming years.”

It is common to see in several schools that the group which requires more hardwork are given only to students who fare well in class 10. However, the Headmistress said all three groups – biology, computer science and commerce – has seen equal number of takers. “We believe in fulfilling students’ dream,”she noted.

Since three years, the teachers are making the concepts easier due to Smartclass system. But this school does not make a mark only in academics, but also in extracurricular activities.

“To give a wholesome experience, we have made it mandatory to the students to learn yoga or karate or other activities,” she added.

When questioned about her focus in the next academic year, she added, “We would be giving vigorous training to achieve 100 per cent results as government schools are no less than private ones. The teachers are well-qualified, too.”

Wish the school at 044 2224 8370.
