Chennai: From starting a TV channel exclusively for school children and bringing a fresh design to uniforms, the School Education Department is on a mission to uplift the standards of government schools in Tamilnadu.

The Department of School Education and Tamilnadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation will start TAC TV channel with exclusive educational content for school children. The cable connection will be provided to 53,000 government and government-aided schools in Tamilnadu.

TAC TV can also be viewed by the students from their houses with the Arasu cable connection in channel number 200.

Education-related information, programmes featuring academicians, and classes conducted by subject matter experts will be telecast. It will start operations from June. Content relevant to students from class 1-12 will be featured. The Arasu Cable TV Corporation is in the process of finalising the content, according to reports.

At present, work to install new TV sets and repair the old and malfunctioning ones is underway in the schools. The incurred cost will be paid from the Parents Teachers’ Association fund and accumulated funds. Local cable operators have been tasked with the duty of providing connections to the schools.

Fresh look
The school education department had announced earlier new and fresh look uniforms for government school children. The designs are now finalised. Students from class 1-5 will wear uniforms with green shades and students from class 6-8 will get sandal coloured uniforms. The new uniforms will be worn by more than 70 lakh students studying in government-run and government-aided schools across Tamilnadu.
