Chennai: Even as most exit polls predicted BJP-led NDA would retain power at Centre, many of them pointed at DMK winning significant numbers of seats out of the 38 Parliamentary constituencies in the State.
However, DMK President M K Stalin said he did not take the exit polls seriously and would rather wait for 23 May to know people’s predictions. He further stated that his late father M Karunanidhi had taken the same stand in the past also.
Speaking to reporters, Stalin brushed aside as rumors the reported meeting of opposition parties convened by Sonia Gandhi to discuss the post-poll scenario on counting day.
“Who told you there is a meeting on May 23…Such meetings will be useful only if held after results are known. So we are waiting,” he shot back.
When asked whether DMK would be part of the next cabinet formed by whichever party at the Centre, Stalin replied that he could respond to the question only after counting on 23 May.
Earlier, State BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan had claimed the DMK chief was in talks with the BJP, and drew a sharp rebuke from Stalin. He had asserted he was with the Congress.
Asked if TDP leader and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was holding talks with him, Stalin said the two had been interacting for long. When questioned about reports of a possible meeting between Gandhi and BSP supremo Mayawati in Delhi Monday, Stalin replied by saying it could be held to take decisions under the prevailing situation.
