Chennai: In the Assembly elections held in four States along with the Lok Sabha polls, the YSR Congress was set to emerge winner in Andhra Pradesh, the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is set for a record fifth term in office in Odisha at the time of publishing.

In Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP is riding high and in Sikkim, the Opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) was leading in seven Assembly seats as per initial trends.

Naidu out, YSR in
It’s disappointment all round for TDP president Chandrababu Naidu who is on his way out as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, giving way to YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy.

The YSR Congress is racing to a brute majority in the Assembly with 144 leads so far while the TDP is ahead in only 30 of the 175 seats in the Assembly.

Jagan Reddy has the upper hand in the Lok Sabha results, too, with his party leading in 20 seats. Celebrations are under way at the YSRC office in Amaravati.

Slogans of ‘Jagan CM, Bye, Bye Naidu’ can be heard reverberating around the party office. This was the first general and Assembly election to be held in the State after its bifurcation five years ago and after Naidu walked out of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance.

Confident of a victory, sources said the YSRC camp is already in talks for finalising dates for Jagan Reddy’s swearing in as the new Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and a meeting for it will be held 25 May. Sources said Chandrababu Naidu is expected to tender his resignation as Chief Minister later in the day.

Riding high
The Biju Janata Dal is maintianing a lead in Odisha in the Assembly elections held along with the 2019 general elections in the State.

Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is set for a record fifth term in office in Odisha.
According to the Election Commission website, the status of 142 seats out of 146 seats is known for now. Naveen Patnaik’s BJD was leading in 103 constituencies, while BJP is trailing by leading in 24 constituencies and the Congress a distant third with 12 seats.

The CPI(M), Independent and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha are leading in one seat each.
The BJD has 45.07 vote share and the BJP, 32.54 per cent, while Congress has 15.50 per cent.

BJP set for second term
The BJP is leading with 17 seats, Independent candidates trailing behind with 2 seats and NPP 1 seat in Arunachal Pradesh. The BJP is keen to stay in power, winning all 60 seats.

In the 2014 Assembly Election, the Congress made its way to victory; however, 33 of its 44 MLAs, led by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, first joined the PPA and then merged with the BJP in 2016 to form the government.

It is their turn
The Opposition Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is leading in seven Assembly seats, and the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) in two constituencies as per initial trends, officials said Thursday.

The Sikkim Assembly has 32 seats.
