Chennai: Residents of Nanganallur are on cloud nine as four people from the neighbourhood, including two teenagers have won gold and silver medals at 16th IPOH City International Karate Championship held at Malaysia recently.
Karate masters, Sivabaalan, Vinodha Sivabaalan and their students S V Jittesh and S Anirudh are the four who attended the international championship held during the first week of the month.
The event was attended by over 2,000 students from seven countries, including India, Nepal, Malaysia, Germany, Canada, Singapore and Uzbekistan.
Sivabaalan, who is also the style chief of India Isshinryu Karate won gold in master’s Kata division and sensei Vinodha Sivabaalan won silver in women masters Kata division. Their students, S V Jittesh won gold in karate kata event and silver in Kumite, and S Anirudh won gold in Kumite and won silver in Kata event.
Speaking to News Today, master Vinodha Sivabaalan said, “The victory makes us proud as it has made the country famous at the international stage. We are so happy as our students Jittesh S V and Anirudh have won international karate championship. Here the double delight for us is Jittesh S V’s victory. It is only the third international tournament for him. We are planning to attend another international karate championship soon. We are getting ready for that.”
