Chennai: With World Environment Day being observed 5 June, the Federation of Mudichur Welfare Associations distributed saplings to more than 400 students.
“The federation has always been concerned about the local environment,” said its chairperson Dhamodharan.
“When I was doing my schooling, only top scorers will get prizes. I made a point to recognise the effort put in by every student and encourage them with shields,” said the chairperson.
To honour the community students, the federation presented shields to class 10 and 12 passed-outs along with the saplings. The federation is now geared up to restore two lakes in the locality.
“With the support of the residents, we will clean the Periya lake and Chinna lake and prevent encroachments,” he said.
