Hyderabad: After facing nation-wide condemnation for the alleged goof up in the declaration of intermediate exam results, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) yesterday announced 1,137 candidates of the 3.8 lakh failed students were declared passed.

These students had sent their papers for reverification after they failed in the exams the took place in march. According to release, 9,43,005 candidates appeared for the Intermediate exams in March. Of these, 5,60,889 passed while 3,82,116 failed. After re-verification, 1,137 candidates were declared to have passed, of whom 552 were from second year and 585 from the first year. The second year candidates are eligible to pursue higher education.

About 22 students who had failed in the exams had allegedly committed suicide; the nephew of Telugu Desam Party Rajya Sabha MP C M Ramesh was one of them. Members of opposition parties and the students’ organisations and Students’ Federation of India protested across the State.

On the orders of the High Court, the re-verification of answer scripts of failed candidates was started on 26 April. The second-level checking using Artificial Intelligence and scanning for 19,788 answer scripts was still going on. All efforts were being made to complete testing, scanning and uploading by tonight or tomorrow, said a media report.
