Chennai: In a bid to improve the healthcare quality, the Tamilnadu government has launched an ambitious programme, costing Rs 1,999 crore, in which a major portion will be funded by the World Bank.

The agreement was signed at New Delhi by State Health Secretary Beela Rajesh 4 June and handed over to Tamilnadu Health and Family Welfare Minister, C Vijayabaskar Friday.

Addressing media here, the Health Minister said, “The State has been a forerunner in several healthcare initiatives in south India. Almost 70 per cent of delivery cases are registered in State-owned hospitals.”

He further noted that a team comprising of eight members from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) would audit the services offered at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Madurai.

Speaking at another event marking the celebration of World Food Safety awareness, the Health Minister emphasised the requirement to throw light on healthy eating practices among children.
“The State won the award for being the best in Swasrh Bharath Yatra (Eat right India movement) conducted 1 January,” Vijayabaskar said.

He stated that consumers can lodge complaints and grievances by sending a message or WhatsApp message to 94440 42322. Within 48 hours, required action would be taken, he said.
