Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today left for New Delhi to take part in the Niti Aayog meeting to be held tomorrow.

This is the first Niti Aayog meeting after Prime Minister Narendra Modi was elected for the second consecutive term.

As chairperson of Niti Aayog, the PM will address the Chief Ministers of all States, who are members of its governing council.

Palaniswami is expected to raise a host of issues, especially the pending funds from the Centre under various schemes. It is said he might also ask for additional funds to tackle the acute water scarcity in the State.

“The huge compensation arrears the State is to get since the implementation of GST, funds due for the local bodies, among others, will be sought on priority by Palaniswmai,” sources said. It is also said Palaniswami will be meeting Modi on the sidelines of the meeting during which the Cauvery issue is expected to be raised.

Sources said Palaniswami will be meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, too. Though this is seen as a courtesy call, the appointment of a new DGP and Chief Secretary of the State is expected to be discussed.

Palaniswami is expected to meet a few other Union ministers during his visit to the capital city.

The Chief Minister recently met Governor Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan and had an hour-long meeting.

Palaniswami is expected to return to Chennai 16 June.
