Chennai: Chennai is reeling under sever water crisis for a long time now. Borewells and lakes have dried up. Slamming the Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani for the crisis, Stalin demanded the AIADMK leader’s resignation.
“Velumani’s failure is behind the drinking water crisis faced by people in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu … If he fails to resign, I urge the Chief Minister to dismiss him from his post. The people of Tamilnadu too expect only that,” said Stalin.
The leader of the opposition party further urged the chief minister to resolve the drinking water crisis by taking constructive steps in this regard.
The DMK president further questioned why people were made to wait for 15 to 18 days to get a Metrowater supply and that the water supplied through the State-run Metrowater pipelines had a foul smell in many areas.
Since the demand of the people cannot be met by the Chennai Metrowater department, they depend on private water tankers.
Stalin pointed out that several restaurants were being shut and IT companies were asking their employees to work from home. He further questioned why why two desalination projects announced in 2013 have still not been completed.
He further appreciated his party MLAs initiative in distributing drinking water to the people and urged them to accelerate their work more.
