
Chennai: Not many residents in and around Tambaram know that there is a government school for children with hearing difficulties that teaches them till class V and they are given hearing aid free of cost.
The school, located at Judge Colony, Tambaram Sanatorium, has now been upgraded as middle school and has classes till 8. There are also facilities for boarding and lodging for students who come from faraway places. It is said to improve the quality of education, there are plans to implement smart classes in the school.
Anandhi, a teacher from the school, said the institution has been functioning for about 30 years. “Initially, it was only a primary school but now it has been upgraded as middle school. We do not just teach the children, we also try to identify their problem and give them speech therapy. When these children are trained at a young age, it will be helpful for them to interact with other people when they grow up.”
Yogeshwar, A G, Junior Assistant said the students are cared for well in the school and their safety is assured.
